I wasn't aware that this was a reprint of a 2003 offering, however it was a very good read. I especially enjoyed the photographs of scenes from the areas of the city where certain actions take place. It gives you a feeling of authenticity, that this Sherlock Holmes story really happened. The only drawback for me was that I read it immediately after I had read Watson's Afghanistan Adventure. There were contradictory descriptions of things that went on in Watson's military career that distracted me from this book. The former was so superior that it nearly made me give this less than five stars. I did give it the top rating as it was an over all good story and I know I should not judge a book based on another one just read.Product details

The Adventure of the Spanish Drums eBook Martin Daley Reviews
It's a well crafted story with two events colliding to add to the mystery I would recommend it to fans of Holmes, although it is a fairly simple case it's still an easy read.
Extremely well put together pastiche, The Adventure of the Spanish Drums, has the Doyal voice and pacing down pat. The story, wrapped in side mysteries and red herrings, is very readable, and finds all strings tied by the end. Weather the subject matter is interesting or not, is up to the reader, but I think Author Martin Daley delivers a Holmes tale that is, at the very least, structurally heads above most of what Unlimited has to offer. I look forward to reading others.
Possibly before greatness can be defined, one must be acquainted with the ordinary. This book, in short, is pretty ordinary. The plot never seems to get any traction and the taut narratives you can get used to in many of the Sherlock Holmes books tend to be missing in action. Purchased used it's a somewhat worthy addition to a collection but not otherwise.
